چکیده

Glutathione S-transfenase activities have been identified in the small intestine of the rat. Thmreeactivities obtained with p-nitrobenzyl chloride (aralkyl), 1,2-epoxy-3-(p-nitro phenoxy)propane (epoxide), and ethacrynic acid (alkene) as substrates were present in significant amounts. Gel filtra tion indicated an elution volume for the intestinal transfer ase activities that was similar to those activities in the liver and kidney. The induction of the intestinal transferases by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and phenobarbital is sim ilar to those effects observed previously for the hepatic and renal enzymes. The highest concentration of transferase activities occurs in the proximal small intestine; these activ ities are reduced upon fasting. Parallel observations have been reported for aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylases. Because only low or negligible levels of epoxide hydrases have been reported in the small intestine, the glutathione S-transferases may be the primary epoxide-detoxifying system in that on gan.

Evaluation of incidence of intestinal complications during radiation therapy in two supine and prone positions in patients with rectal cancer

Introduction: Radiation therapy is one of the main treatments for rectal cancer. In three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, exposure of healthy tissue around the tumor is unavoidable. The small intestine is the most important organ at risk of rectal cancer radiotherapy. Intestinal complications are a major factor limiting the dose radiotherapy for rectal cancer. The most com...

The Study of Levofloxacin Effects on Liver Tissue in Wistar Rat

Introduction In this study, we examined the effects of the antibiotics levofloxacin on the liver as well as its devastating effects which are ensued from its over-prescription. Levofloxacin serves as one of the antibiotics of genitourinary system and inferior respiratory system. Since liver is the foremost organ that receives all the materials absorbed by intestine through the portal vein, an...

Preparation and evaluation of oxytocin SLNs as semi-finished product for nasal drops formulation

Background: Oxytocin is a peptide hormone that increases the secretion of milk, especially after normal delivery. Due to the properties of this peptide hormone, it seems that changing the route of use and changing the release pattern can create a longer duration of action of the drug. Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are a candidate to achieve these goals, which can be used as a non-invasive me...

Effect of Phenobarbital on Chloramphonicol-Induced Toxicity in Rat Liver and Small Intestine

Objective(s): The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of Chloramphenicol (CAP) on rat liver and small intestine. Effect of phenobarbital (PB) on CAP toxicity was also investigated.   Materials and Methods:   Rats were received CAP at doses of 0, 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg. Another group was pretreated with 80 mg/kg PB 30 min prior to administration of various doses...
